Among other product development endeavors over the past year, Ventax is developing a unique PET Preform handling and cooling system. In August of 1998, the company applied for a patent on its apparatus and process. A significant part of the company's future automation plans are to develop
and market this technology.

The Ventax System

Ventax will use its proven expertise in designing, manufacturing, and servicing robotic and automation systems to the injection molding industry to produce a product that is expected to be less expensive and simpler than current systems in the marketplace. Currently available systems are expensive, have relatively high maintenance costs, and require a large footprint.

The Ventax system (Patent Pending) will overcome the shortcomings of the current technology by using a combination of a high speed robot with a vacuum based end-of-arm tool to remove the preforms and a pneumatic system to then transport the preforms to a separate air cooling device. This system will be more effective in achieving the heat exchange required between the preform and the ambient air by using the medium of conveyance (air) as its mechanism of cooling.

Following the completion of the design and its subsequent patent application, Ventax produced a test device. The test results turned out to be very encouraging, satisfying the objectives set out by Ventax. The tests proved that:

a) the concept was technically feasible, and

b) the preforms would not suffer any damage during this course of treatment.

The resulting preforms were rated to be of "excellent" quality at a test participant's molding facility. Parameters and ramifications were also established, on which Ventax can base its technical calculations for future commercial operating units.

Call for Industry Partners
To attain its goal of fully designing, building, and testing a working system, Ventax is currently
seeking industry partners. PET preform manufacturers, molding machine manufacturers, mold
makers, or any other interested parties are invited to learn more about the project. For further information, contact
Hans-Armin Ohlmann
, Ventax's president and chief engineer for this project. You can reach him
